Strawbridge House...traditionally rendered and bright in the midday sun.
A historic photograph showing the front elevation of the house c. 1875. Courtesy of the MacNaghten family.
Hand painted, free standing kitchen units suited the house better than modern alternatives.
The house retained many original features such as beautiful cornicing and woodwork. Where these were lost or missing, great care was taken to reinstate them.
The original roll top, cast iron bath was brought back to prime condition and given a tasteful backdrop of painted tongue and groove panelling.
Cosy sitting room where traditional and modern styles mix effortlessly.
Strawbridge House benefitted from deep, shuttered windows which were lovingly stripped and restored.
Owing to the vintage of the property, there are some unusual architectural features which have been enhanced through quirky décor.
The listed status of the house dictated that many of the interior walls had to be rendered with lime plaster and therefore finished with lime wash paints instead of modern emulsions. The texture of these walls stood in stark contrast to the smooth plaster elsewhere but became a feature when teamed with a contrasting paint colour.
The rich wood tones of the antique furniture contrast beautifully with the painted wood panelling around the windows.
Each of the five bedrooms has its own distinct character, dictated by a different vintage railway print. The colours throughout reflect the house's stunning sea views.
The original stone outbuildings have been preserved for future conversion but make for an enchanting and uber stylish garden retreat.
